Primarily a plein air painter, Wright is captivated
by the movement and repetition found in nature.
To best capture the transient atmosphere of
the natural world, Wright most often paints on
location or from sketches she makes while outside.
Movement is the theme of her current work-movement
of figures, trees, water, and even patterns of birds and
fish in the water. Transparent watercolors are most
effective at implying there is an underlying force
controlling the painting, whether it is the dark
shadows of a lily pond or a hot blast from the sun.
Wright is a member of Watercolor USA Honor
Society and a signature member of the Florida
Water-color Society, Mid-Southern Watercolorists,
Georgia Watercolor Society and the Texas
Watercolor Society. She is also a juried member
of the Southern Watercolor Society and the Southwest
Wright received her education at the Memphis College of Art and the
American Academy of Art in Chicago. She studied with Irving Shapiro and
Milford Zornes. Both of whom she credits with helping to open her eyes to
the feelings around her.
My work is included in many corporate and private collections. I participate
in national juried competitive shows from Maine to California and won
awards over the years. To contact Val personally, visit her website at:
