Deborah Mitchell
Deborah Ann Mitchell, native rural Arkansan, is a master
at hand-building clay. Her sculptural approach stems
from a deep appreciation and thorough examination of
the natural world including the human role played by
interacting with the elements.
She uses multiple forming techniques and finishes.
Atypical hybrids include mixed media with glass and
metal inclusions. Her subject matter is beautiful, varied,
and thought-provoking. Deborah's creations show clay's
sensual reality and its inherent tendency to respond to
touch. She also uses the theatrical ability clay has as
"The Great Imitator" of things and emotions.
University-trained, she teaches privately, operates a
studio/gallery, and has exhibited widely during her
career.
