Artists retreat well attended
Ozark Regional Arts Council recently hosted its annual Women Artist Retreat
at Stone Creek Ranch.
Twenty-three artists from four states and Canada stayed at the ranch for
four days of artists’ workshops, friendship, fellowship and fun. Two
Mountain Home High School students, sponsored by Integrity First Bank
and First Security Bank, came each day to join in the activities. The first
day of the retreat included a welcome lunch, demo by guest artists and
instructors Bill and Gloria Garrison of Russellville and a slide presentation
of tips and techniques of photography by Bill Barksdale of Cotter. Several
artists and photographers met with Barksdale each morning at dawn for
additional photo sessions.
Bill Garrison taught a two-day Plein Air oil workshop. Both days, Garrison
critiqued paintings of individuals. Watercolor students learned watercolor
techniques with Gloria Garrison.
A new activity this year was a friendship exchange of paintings. Each
participant was to take an 8x10inch finished painting, unsigned and
wrapped. The paintings were exchanged in a drawing. Other door prizes
also were given by drawing.
Dana Johnson, Palette Art League president, and Deborah Lively, ORAC
president, planned, shopped for and prepared the meals during the
weekend. Integrity First Bank provided hamburgers, brats and potato salad
for a Saturday night barbecue.
Retreat sponsors were invited to the barbecue to meet the artists and see
the work produced during the weekend.
The next Women Artist Retreat is scheduled for Sept. 18-21, 2014.
Instructors will be Sheila Parsons of Conway and Cindy Kopenhafer of
Pleasant Hope, Mo. For more information, call Lively at 425-8291.
